Finance Manager

Australian Controlled Traffic Farming Association
Perth, WA
04.2020 - 09.2021

I was contracted to ACTFA, by the board, to review and overhaul the financial management system. The association was going through a period of change and the board at the time had faced several challenges with the financial management system and reporting to the board.

As well as review the financial management system, my roll was to process, and provide accurate reporting of, all financial and banking operations while supporting the Treasurer, Board and Executive Officer as they carry out their financial responsibilities.

Co-Founder & Managing Director

Grubs Up Australia
Pinjarra, WA
07.2017 - 12.2019

In 2016 I co-founded Grubs Up to commercially produce and process insects as a high protein feed and food source. With a booming global population, declining natural resources and high levels of wasted produce, my co-founder and I saw an opportunity to create value out of waste and produce a sustainable protein source, requiring minimal inputs for our future generations as both an animal feed and functional food product.

My key responsibilities were:

· To set and execute strategic directions.

· Manage business financials and KPIs.

· Maintain board papers and financial reporting.

· Manage insurance and risk.

· Provide updates to shareholders.

· Market research.

· Marketing and awareness campaigns, involving several public speaking events each year.

· Insect farming – understanding and developing an intensive system, then optimising and scaling the system with our engineering partner.

· Product development and sales.

· General business management and operations.

Consultant’s Assistant

Agvise Management Consultants
Perth, WA
10.2009 - 11.2011

Responsibilities included:

· Client file preparation, including, compiling actual cashflow for the previous year and for the year to date, preparing a draft cashflow budget for the year, completing a budget to actual comparison for the previous year and for the year to date and calculating key performance indicators (KPIs) for the previous year and expected KPIs for the budgeted period, using Agrimaster, Phoenix and Microsoft Excel.

· Preparation of annual reviews and seasonal reviews, reporting on the client’s financial performance for the previous year and outlining their expected performance for the budgeted period, to be presented to the client, their bank and accountant.

· Preparation of client reports advising on farm business financing, farm business analysis, grain marketing strategies, succession planning and property feasibility studies.

· Preparation of and reporting on client financial benchmarking data for the client group as a whole and for individual clients compared to other clients in the same rainfall zone.

· Preparation of a quarterly newsletter, including selecting the theme of the newsletter, allocating articles to be written, writing articles, editing and the production of the final product, using Microsoft Word and Microsoft Publisher.

· General administrative duties, including liaising with clients and other business professionals over the phone and in person, diary management for consultants and remote support for the regional office.
