Work History

Preschool Teacher

Two Wells Community Children's Centre
06.2023 - Current
  • Developed strong relationships with parents and caregivers, providing regular updates on their child''s progress and addressing any concerns proactively. Used the platform Class Dojo to communicate and share Individual Learning Programs with families digitally.
  • Engaged in inquiry-based learning: this is a powerful approach that I have used at Two Wells Community Children's Centre, aiming to design engaging and meaningful learning experiences.
  • Supported hands-on learning through play by setting up provocations that allow children to investigate new concepts of interest. Built an environment with engaging resources, books, and materials that inspire curiosity and creativity.
  • Supported and supervised 30 children through each session at Preschool. Across the week, I've supported and supervised 60 children and their families in two session groups.
  • Increased parent involvement by effectively communicating with families about upcoming events, volunteer opportunities, and student progress, such as 'Special Person's Day' and local excursions to Two Wells Football and Netball Sporting Club.
  • Created a literacy-rich environment by providing children with opportunities to explore and use literacy through their daily routines and play. Used the 'Emergent Literacy Project' from the Department of Education, which has enhanced children's phonological awareness through capturing their interest in reading.
  • Fostered independence in students by encouraging self-help skills and personal responsibility.
  • Facilitated connection with nature through regular educational outdoor excursions and modelled respect for our natural environment, enhancing children's environmental awareness.
  • Used creative teaching methods to build on social inclusion and make learning enjoyable. I incorporated music from the 'Music Education Strategy', movement, stories, and art into shared learning times and my everyday practice.
  • Fostered a growth mindset by empathising that mistakes are part of learning and growing. I celebrated children’s effort and persistence, praising their attempts and progress.
  • Adjusted my teaching methods to meet diverse learning styles, interests, and needs I incorporated alternative approaches like visual aids, hands-on active learning, individualised instruction, or peer learning. This involved constant assessment of what is working and willingness to make changes to improve learning outcomes for all children.
  • Created realistic and achievable goals for preschoolers, taking into account their diverse developmental stages. The learning goals I set are centred on the key developmental domains for young children, including cognitive, social, emotional, physical, and language development.
  • Used curriculum and supporting documents to help guide goal setting for children, such as The Early Years Learning Framework and Implementation Guidelines for Indicators of Preschool Numeracy and Literacy. These frameworks have guided me in setting age-appropriate goals. I've facilitated parent and caregiver- teacher interviews and conversations, to understand the child’s background, needs, and interests.
  • Used an evidence-based approach to teaching and learning to identify student learning needs, assess levels of achievement, influence teaching strategies for growth, observing student progress, and evaluate my teaching practice.
  • Helped new preschool children become familiar to the Preschool environment and routines by offering one-on-one support during transition periods.
  • Stayed informed about educational theories, teaching methods, and content through on-going Professional Development. Pursued training, workshops, and educational resources that demonstrates my commitment to improving as a teacher.
  • Advocated for resources such as sensory toys for children with diverse needs. Leadership has supported me by securing funding and arranging professional development workshops, such as ’SMART Training; Trauma Informed Pedagogy’.
