Supervision of the following contracts for Mackay City Council:

• Waste Collection;
• Recycling Collection;
• Material Resource Facility (M.R.F.);
• Landfill and haulage;
• Operations of transfer stations;
• Greenwaste management;
• Resource recovery; and
• Gatehouse operations.

Supervision and coordination of Council’s waste disposal facilities and the supervision of staff including the Foreman for Waste Management and four Operational Staff.

Administer waste collection approvals in accordance with the Environmental Protection Act 1994.

Investigate complaints and respond to requests in relation to all of Council’s waste management services.

Assist in the contract development and project management for Council’s Integrated Waste Management project and provide advice regarding Council’s waste operations.

Participate in the implementation of Council’s Waste Management Strategy.

Develop Council’s Sustainability Agenda.

Lead and coordinated Council’s Cities for Climate Protection project.

Module owner and administrator of Council’s weighbridge (Mandalay) software.

• Managing the Waste Management functions and operations of Council to provide an efficient and effective service to the City to comply with the Environmental Protection Agency licence requirements.
• Manage future direction for Waste Management functions and operations of Council including the Landfill and Transfer Stations.
• Provide expert advice to the Executive Manager Planning and Environment and Council on waste management and environmental services matters.
• To co-ordinate Environmental Management for the City by overseeing the implementation and enforcement of the Environmental Protection Act 1994 and any associated policies and regulations as well as other relevant legislation.
• To lead and contribute in the development of the transitional arrangements for the new waste services program for the Mackay City Council.
• To co-ordinate the further development and implementation of the Integrated Environmental Management System to ensure that the system is implemented throughout Council’s area of responsibility to reduce Council’s and Council’s staff liability.
• Oversee, co-ordinate and provide strategic direction of Council’s integrated environmental ethos by working with industry, business and the community to achieve the desired environmental outcomes.
• To implement Council’s Equal Employment Opportunity Policy and Council’s Workplace Health & Safety Policy.

• Assist and provide expert advice to Manager Health and Regulatory Services, Environmental Health Officers and Local Law Officers on Environmental Health matters.
• Supervision of waste collection and recycling contracts.
• Process Section 369A approvals for waste collectors.
• Coordinate Council’s Vector Control program.
• Supervise Council’s Pest Management program.
• Coordinate Immunisation services.
• Oversee Council’s public water supply monitoring program.
• Module Owner of Licencing, Infringements and Animals for Pathway software.

• Inspections and reports on:

o Food Premises;

o Accommodation;

o Entertainment Venues;

o Temporary Homes;

o Caravan Parks;

o Flammable Combustible Liquid Storages

o Skin Penetration premises; and

o Hairdressing Premises.

• Coordinate Immunisation services.
• Investigate environmental health issues including, noise, dust, mosquitoes, water pollution, vermin harbourage and waste matters.
• Carry out the public water supply monitoring program.

Primary duties involved the approval and inspection of the following:

§ Food and hairdressers’ premises

§ Flammable and combustible liquid installations

§ Child Care Centres

§ Swimming pools (public and private)

§ Licensed premises, Caravan Parks, Hawkers, itinerant vendors and standing stalls

§ Flats and motels

§ Conducted Water Sampling including regular sampling of the public water supply, private water supplies, public and semi-public swimming pools and spas, natural recreational waters and air-conditioning systems.

§ Conducted health searches, notifiable and communicable diseases - investigation of reported cases of diseases as defined by the Health Act.

§ Community Health Education - planning, programming of community health programmes including lecturing to community groups including food handlers.
