Development of confidence in caring for a patient independently. Communication skills are enhanced with paediatric patients, family members and carers, and respiratory assessment skills are consolidated. Conducting practice according to policies and guidelines is also further reinforced.
An increased understanding of specific assessment and care under the cardiology ward is achieved. Increased knowledge regarding the protocols and people involved in cardiac arrest events is also gained.
Relevant knowledge and skills to take care of the mental health patient with higher acuity are learned, developing de-escalation skills, documenting care levels 1 and 2, and learning about the alcohol withdrawal scale and electroconvulsive therapy procedure.
Protocols relating to medication administration and donning appropriate PPE are meticulously followed during placement at the infection control ward.
Practised and consolidated verbal and non-verbal therapeutic communication skills such as active listening, reflecting patient's feelings and content, eye contact, and maintaining an open posture.
Achieved and observed various nursing skills, including witnessing the changing of a Vac dressing, practising multiple wound dressing and medication administration, and continued to improve in manual handling, such as providing pressure area care and bed washes.
Developed the habit of reflecting on personal practice, enhanced observation skills, and continued to develop additional fundamental nursing skills, including mobilising patients safely through practising correct techniques and using relevant aids.
