Community Work

Jells Park Greyhound Walk Community Group Founder, Organiser and Host

I have been involved with the rescued greyhound community for 14 years. My family has fostered numerous greyhounds and adopted six throughout our journey. I am the founder, organiser and host of the Jells Park Greyhound Walk- a community group of families who have adopted ex-racing greyhounds. We meet monthly for a wonderful day of getting together, support and raising awareness of the plight of ex-racing greyhounds while promoting them as the beautiful companions they are!

Our group which comprises of a wonderful cross section of the wider community has been meeting for 9 years and with the rising popularity of greyhounds as pets we can have 50+ greyhounds attend each walk. In recent years we have organised fundraisers for greyhound rescue and in September 2023 we organised a fundraising event which included a sausage sizzle, raffle, silent auction and stall which saw 146 greyhounds attend with their families! The same event this year saw 117 greyhounds attend but this was due to inclement weather, being Grand Final Weekend and a necessary change of venue. Both events saw thousands of dollars raised for our chosen greyhound rescue and further fostered our wonderful sense of community spirit!
