These highly technical roles include overlooking chemical supply accounts of three coal-fired power stations, owned by AGL, EA and Origin.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Comply will all EHS policies and procedures and actively contribute to their effectiveness in maintaining a workplace that supports health and safety for all stakeholders
  • Management of water treatment specialist teams, ensuring all are working effectively and safely.
  • Assist in design and implementation of dosing systems.
  • Participate in continuous improvement of Quality Management System.
  • Maintain and build business/customer relationships at all levels from operations to site management.
  • Provide consultative advice to customer.
  • Review customer chemical treatment programs and processes, ensuring effective applications through routine testing, monitoring & data analysis.
  • Responsible for vendor-managed inventory programs – maintain accurate inventory counts, work with customer to forecast future needs, facilitate product re-ordering, interface with Logistics Team to ensure on-time delivery of products.
  • Responsible for equipment monitoring & maintenance.
  • Provide immediate support to customer when required.

Major achievements:

  • Overlooking design and installation of ClO2 generator for disinfection of lake cooling water. This project saved >$2M per annum (calculated by customer) in improved condenser performance and avoidance of de-rating power generators.
  • Predictive software analysis for optimisation of antiscalant dosing. My analysis was key in reduction in CaCO3 scaling and resulted in greater heat transfer and efficiency.
  • After receiving warnings and fines from EPA for dust losses from ash dam, I lead a team to hastily design and implement dust suppression program. Since implementation, customer has not received any notices from EPA.
  • Due to acid dosing no longer being permitted, WTS developed antiscalant product to delay scaling and potentially blockage of power station dust-slurry line saving customer approximately $3M every five years in pipe boring costs.

Sales Engineer

Andritz

This position was focused on supply of thickening and dewatering equipment for wastewater and domestic water treatment plants.

Although realising that a 100% sales-focused position was not my true passion, it did give me valuable experience working closely with process and design engineers in waste and domestic water industries.
