  • My main responsibilities as a support worker are assessing the practical and emotional needs of a client and drawing up a care plan, assisting with domestic tasks such as cooking, cleaning, washing, and shopping and develop supportive relationships with clients while demonstrating proper boundaries, I am currently working with multiple clients in Darwin, NT areas
  • I am also familiar with 24/7 roster setting, including overnight and active shift.

  • While doing the placement in Foodbank NT, I got an opportunity of contributing to the community development with their food relief programme whose mission is to achieve a Territory without hunger
  • The major clients of the organization include the different not for profit organizations, charities and schools to which the organization supply the basic food items at the substantially reduced rate
  • These rates are not the food charges but essentially handling and logistic costs to support the food relief program
  • While working here, I got an opportunity to understand the end-to-end supply chain of the organization, how it operates, its dependencies, costs, key investors, need of funds and place for more storage, assistance to the clients on humanitarian ground and their key stakeholders
  • The organization is a community service provider by serving as a food bank for those in need
  • I was able to enhance my problem-solving ability, soft skills, working in a team, decision making, leadership skills, time management and effective strategy making
  • An important lesson learnt while working towards the humanitarian cause is to strike a balance between the emotions and the practical situation; make unbiased decisions; respect all irrespective of their culture and community and maintain poise in uncertain situations
  • With the help of this placement opportunities, I have enhanced my abilities to take cognizance of the underlying situation, think theoretically but consider the real-world parameters that practically impact the situation and make intelligent decisions I was placed as a staff to take the experience of the ground-level activities
  • However, I also got a chance of administration activities and supervisor role for some period
  • It provided a different outlook to what community help is all about and how one needs to manage the different clients.
