Summary

For 16 years my professional life was firmly embedded within the public and private healthcare sector as a nurse within the specialised field of Oncology. Nursing was not just my passion but it was my identity. I was forced to step away from nursing following a traumatic event in my personal life and turned to another passion being food.

I have always thought of food as a powerful and unifying element that transcends basic sustenance. It brings people together and creates lasting memories. Inspired by culinary icons I made the decision to pursue my passion for cooking. I set out to gain experience within a commercial kitchen as well as enrolling in the Certificate III of Commercial Cookery at Regional Geraldton College of TAFE. I commenced my Chef Apprenticeship in November 2021 at Piper Lane Cafe Geraldton, and have completed years one and two.

Whilst I have enjoyed undertaking the apprenticeship I have come to the realisation that I need to once again be in a position which will allow me to thrive which I believe that Empowerment House can provide.
